grades of paper we purchase

Highlander International Recycling are able to purchase and re-process almost any type of clean, sorted recovered paper, so long as it comes in 24 ton lots and is baled to an acceptable standard. Below is illustration and description of the common grades we trade regularly, however please note other grades can be bought and sold on specification and inspection.

The main grades of paper we purchase and supply to the market-place;

best white no.1 reels / best white no.1 Best White No.1 Reels / Best White No.1

100% pure white woodfree paper, free from any coatings and minimal amounts of marks. Can be bought and sold in either reel or baled form either in full or part loads.
100 OCC 100% OCC (Old corrugated containers)

Used Printed or Unprinted corrugated case material, free from any other type of paper or board. Can be bought in baled form either in full or part loads.
Lightly printed scan board Lightly Printed Scan Board (LPS)

Groundwood free misprint sheets and cartons of bleached  / scan board. Free from any other type of paper or board. Can be bought in either full or part loads.

soft mixed paper Soft Mixed Paper

Mixed papers from domestic sources, consisting of predominantly news and pams, with a maximum of 30% of other paper and boards permitted such as cardboard. Maximum out-throw levels permitted at 5%.
100 OCC Light Coloured Letter (LCL)

Consists of 75% White Heavy letter and 25% Coloured Heavy letter per bale, must be free from all coated papers. Bales must be  free of plastic, poly coated or laminates & any other contraries such as wet strength or 'stickies' such as latex. N.C.R content limited to the normal average found in Coloured Letter/White Letter.
100 OCC Coloured Heavy Letter (CHL)

Made up of Office paper such as letters, photocopy papers, invoices etc which have been lightly printed. May contain lightly printed boards such as business reply cards. Bank cheques may be included but must be free from wet strength cheques . Paper must be woodfree and uncoated and free from stickies.
90/10 OCC 90/10 OCC (Old corrugated containers)

This is the standard OCC bought and sold for export contains used paper and corrugated board packaging, containing a minimum of 90% of corrugated board, the rest being solid board and wrapping papers.
100 OCC Over Issue News (OINP)

Newspapers, containing a maximum of 5% of newspapers or advertisements coloured in the mass. Should be free from magazines and free from woodfree fibres.
100 OCC White Heavy Letter (WHL)

Sorted white wood-free writing papers, originating from office records, free from cash books, carbon paper and non-water soluble adhesives. Should contain no coloured woodfree material and no mechanical fibres.

Lightly printed white shavings of very lightly printed coated mechanical pulp based paper (Usually sourced from newspaper press centre trim operations)
news and pams News and Pams (70 / 30)

This is the standard export specification for baled news and pams, containing a mixture of newspapers and magazines, containing a minimum of 70% of newspapers, with or without glue. Maximum of 4% out-throws permitted (which includes un-bleached fibres)
100 OCC Coloured Woodfree Tones

A specialised grade, consisting of a mixture of coloured woodfree papers, with no limit to the amounts or mixtures of the colours contained in the bales.
medium printed scan board Medium Printed Scan Board (MPS)

Groundwood free misprint sheets and cartons of bleached  / scan board.
multi grade Multi-Grade

Consists various papers per bale, between 15 – 20% White Heavy Letter, 30% WF Col. Shavs, 25% Coloured Heavy Letter and maximum of 15% Coloured Best Pams and 5% Coloured ConStat.  May contain max. 10% mechanical content. Material must be free from latex binders, self adhesive labels, wet strength poly-laminates & other contraries.  Overall appearance should be bright & light.
100 OCC Chipboard

Printed and unprinted white lined and unlined grey board or mixed board, free from corrugated material.
box board cuttings Box Board Cuttings (BBC)

Baled, new, pre consumer cuttings of paperboard / grey board used in the manufacture of folding cartons, set-up boxes and similar boxboard products.
100 OCC Loose News and Pams

This is the standard specification for loose news and pams, containing a mixture of newspapers and magazines, containing a minimum of 70% of newspapers, with or without glue. Maximum of 2% out-throws permitted (which includes un-bleached fibres)
hard mixed paper Hard Mixed Paper

Mixed and various pulpable papers, boards and paper packaging usually containing around 50% per bale of corrugated material. 
100 OCC Sorted Office Waste (SOP)

General office paper made up of coloured and white letters and business forms which may be shredded. May contain metal pins and fasteners and less than 20% of manila envelopes and manila file covers.  Carbon paper should not be included. The mechanical content per bale should not exceed 10%. All non bleachable material must not be included.
white unprinted White Unprinted (UPW)

Slab sheets of white unprinted newsprint, free from coated mechanical magazine paper (Printed or unprinted) and printed newspapers.
best_white_no2 Best White No.2

100% pure white woodfree paper with some off-tone woodfree paper permitted (5% max.). Some coating and marks permitted. Can be purchased in either full or part loads.
