The start of June will be remembered for the large and very sudden drop in the value of OCC prices - falling up to £30 / €35 p ton in some cases. This market cooling was driven by the Chinese market although many believed the magnitude of the drops implemented where unjustified and completely off-target. This has been partly vindicated by the re-bound in OCC prices of about £15 / €18 within 2 weeks of the initial cooling off of the market. In terms of timimg, much of the OCC needing to be bought to coincide with the Christmas goods hitting the shelves of the developed nations needs to be bought and shipped very shortly, so we predict more small increases over the next few weeks, but cannot see the price hitting the levels we enjoyed before the recent cooling off period.
